When the Going Gets Tough . . .
You may think about the common phrase, “. . . the tough get going!”
For those of us who might not think about ourselves as tough, this could lead us to getting lost in some mental obsession on how to get of the latest dilemma.
One day, it occurred to me there was a more useful way of thinking about challenges— that when things really got difficult, if I just tried to stay calm and learn what I could from that situation, I would become aware of something that could level me up.
My new saying became, “When the going gets tough, it is almost over!”
Over the years this saying has served me well in the ups and downs of life. It taught me a different view of challenges. Instead of getting stuck in a will power, be strong frame of mind, I just asked, “What is it I need to understand to ___________?”
