Understanding Healing and Processing Life’s Issues

A Helpful Insight While Drawing a Mandala

The mandala above is one of the first mandalas I drew when I discovered my passion for mandalas. They were a way to put an abstract idea into physical form. The one above was done with colored pencils. When I finished it, I did not like the green. The green was like this green.           ▼▼▼

It was easy enough to erase the disliked green (for me) and replace it with a dark forest green. Perfect.

Since the mandala I drew was symbolic of the physical well-being I had struggled with since age 12, it was not to surprising that I gained an insight from the experience of changing the green. Within that reworked mandala, the new insight would prove useful for years to come.

The insight : when you heal or process an issue in the present time, it will reverberate back into your past—thus cleansing and changing in light of the new insight you have gained.

Why Healing and Processing Issues Might Take Time

Recently, there was an additional thought that explained why healing from grief, trauma, or processing other life issues might take time. Because we are unaware that the process of healing or processing goes back in our history there is often old baggage that shows up. You may think about something that happened years ago that you had forgotten. You may experience emotions you can’t explain. You may find yourself wanting to keep extra busy. You may find you are thinking about making a change in some area of your life.

These are all good things. They are opportunities to gain new understanding and release baggage for good. All this takes time and you may not even realize it is happening.

What to do When in Healing and Change Mode

There are some actions you can take to make the experience a little easier and smoother:

  • Acknowledge and give yourself grace to sit with your new thoughts and feelings without judgment.
  • Be open to leaning into some new understanding and incorporating them into your thinking.
  • Let your heart feel what it feels without trying to avoid t them.
  • Give yourself some quiet time to just be.
  • Most important, focus on your goal to find peace and freedom and it will eventually make the experience a pleasant one.

Whenever your healing and processing issues seems to take long, know there is good reason why it is taking a while. Be patient.
