What Story Do You Live In?
Are You Aware You Live in Many Stories?
Yes, that is true. The mind has a way of creating a story whenever we experience something. It is the minds way of reconciling something new that has happened. Let’s say you experience something traumatic, a story is also a way of your mind minimizing the trauma.
What Story Are You Living In?
Are you Cinderella waiting for a knight in shining armor? Are you a dragon burning down anything that that gets you riled up because of some injustice? Are you a superhero? Are you a soft teddy bear that loves and cuddles everyone with love? Are you a wise sage that teaches others how to be successful in their life endeavors? I would venture to say you may have a little of all these stories in you, plus even more.
What If Your Story Holds You Back?
One of the most useful ideas about the stories we create was from Janet Attwood, author of The Passion Test.
In one of her webinars, she suggested that every time you have some negative thought bothering you to sit down and write a new story about it. Janet also suggested doing it for 30 days.
At the time I was into trying to fill my head with positive thoughts and activities to crowd out the negative, so I started writing new stories. It was life-changing because that new story became like a new vision of what my life could be. It gave me a new focus.
How to Find Out Your Stories?
It is a simple process but may take a little patience and skill building. You, like most of us, think thoughts and feel feelings and do not really notice them. Once you start to notice what you are thinking and feeling, you will start to see patterns. These patterns can be life affirming or they can be troublesome.
If your thoughts and feelings—your stories—are positive and create an inner environment of growth and movement, you get it.
If your thoughts and feelings are negative in any way, time to create a new story.
How to Create a New Story?
One way to create a new story is to see yourself in a future experience where the old story has gone. You have created a dream result. The only caveat would be to make this new story one that you could see yourself doing. If it is realistically not possible, you will create an inner fight and delay your growth and movement.
What Story are You Going to Work on Today?
Those of you that know me, know that I am in the process of reversing diabetes and high blood pressure. Currently, I have been able to stop taking all but one of the five medications I used to take.
Every night when I journal, I do a visualization—my new story—and it fills me with hope and confidence.
