More Money – Disconnect Your Emotions From Money
Are You Having Money Troubles?
Do you have too much debt? Are you not able to have or do some things you would really love, or do you live paycheck to paycheck, fearful you will go under if you miss a payment?
Sound familiar? Unfortunately, a lot of people live in a constant state of struggle with their finances. Believe me, it doesn’t have to be that way.
How Your Emotions Sabotage Your Finances
I learned a valuable lesson while I was working to heal a life-time of dealing with weight issues. I did what I should: I ate less, moved more, tried all the latest diets. And only by sheer will power did I manage to get my weight from 315 lbs to 215 lbs. But then all the emotional connections to food crept back in and I floundered for a long time.
I hired a coach who specialized in emotional eating: Emmie Perez. She helped me to realize that I needed to learn to disconnect my emotions from food. To make a long story short, I’ve become emotionally strong, and I am getting the rest of the weight off with confidence and excitement.
The same holds true with your emotional connections to money.
What Kind of Emotional Connections Are There to Money?
Emotional connections that will interfere with your finances can come from many sources. You have heard me talk about how you can come out of your childhood with misunderstanding or lack of understanding because children lack the language or concepts to process what is going on around them. They become unconscious messages—I call them blank spots—that later interfere with your adult life.
These messages can be about money and finances. I remember a neighbor boy telling me rich people are crooks. I’ve wondered where he is today financially. Did he become a rich crook?
Here are some ways you may emotionally connect:
1. Witnessing how our parents handled money can be a big emotional connection. I’ve seen people in financial trouble because they fight about money a lot and can’t break the cycle because their issues aren’t really about money. Their real issues are about not getting their needs met or being heard.
2. There are those who believe being rich gives them control and empowerment. They lose themselves in their quest to be “successful” financially. They may end up identifying themselves with their successes rather than with their true authenticity. The trouble with this is that their mind is always trying to lead them toward how they really feel; thus, they fight with becoming authentic. The emotional consequences are a lot of inner turmoil that can be disrupting on so many levels.
3. Society gives you messages that tug at your emotions, getting in the way of clarity about money. If you admire the wealthy like they have a secret you want to know, listen to get rich schemes that mess with disciplining your minds, and listen to how to get the big house and fancy cars, there is a good chance you won’t get any of it Unfortunately, true manifesting isn’t about this.
4. There is your very nature that can connect your emotions through self-defeating thoughts about money. If you are someone with a deep curiosity about how manifesting works, you will find it. If you are someone who reacts to life without questioning, you may struggle with money for a long time.
