Patiently Exploring Patience
What does impatience look like? Did you notice?
- Very stressed
- Expressing negative judgements of the situation
- Expressing negative judgement of people
- Illogical decisions
- Lots of venting
- Not solution oriented
The good thing about being patient — It slows you down so you can sort out your thoughts and feelings. Here are a few of the benefits of patience:
- You can stay calm
- You can connect better with compassion and empathy
- You can build good relationships because you are kinder
- You think ahead rather than a flash in the moment
- Your decisions are clear and even touch your heart.
How do you develop more patience, you ask me?
Those of you who know me well, know I will say the first step to becoming more patient is to want deeply and persistently. Here are more steps to think about:
- Consider impatience isn’t logical and think about it as just a triggered reaction and may not be your true feelings.
- Consider your impatience is your mind signaling you there is some old baggage to bring out and learn something new.
- Consider there is a skill in communication or negotiating to be learned in the process.
- Consider impatience can be a habit that can be replaced by a new habit.
- Consider most people who are successful are open, flexible, and patient while still passionately focused on what they want.
